Pandemic has spurred engagement in on-line extremism, consultants say
Eighteen months of worldwide lockdowns have led to rising engagement in a poisonous on-line cocktail of extremist materials starting from terrorist content material to conspiracy theories and disinformation, consultants warn.
Jacob Davey from the Institute of Strategic Dialogue (ISD) stated research had already proven “there was a proliferation of dangerous and troubling exercise on-line” through the pandemic.
“What we’ve seen is proof of spikes of on-line exercise in a variety of extremist points throughout lockdown. It isn’t simply terrorist materials however a broad cocktail of on-line harms, as folks spent extra time indoors,” Davey stated.
